(DSA) is a non-profit organization, funded in 1969 to be a support and an advocate for all people living with diabetes in South Africa.
Johannesburg national office and 8 branches around the country.
We inform, encourage and support all people who have diabetes and their families and we promote public awareness of diabetes. Increasing diabetes education, prevention and good diabetes management.
- Support groups (Over 120 support groups, all meeting regularly)
- Children living with diabetes camps. (Important, so they know they are not alone)
- School awareness program "Denim for diabetes"
- Patient's educational workshops and health days
- "Testing wellness campaigns" Encouraging diabetes prevention and increasing early detection rates (e.g. at Companies, shopping centers and schools).
- Training of Nursing sisters/support group leaders
- Distribute many different forms literature to help educate the public and people living with diabetes.
- Diabetes and You (Simple clear comic picture guide for personal management of Type 2 Diabetes in English/ Afrikaans/ Zulu / Sesotho/ Xhosa.
- Understanding diabetes/ healthy eating guidelines/Quarterly diabetes focus magazine
